Ellen Garvens

Ellen Garvens work was very interesting and even though I didn't like all of her pieces, for the most part I liked them, and liked how she kept evolving with her work. I really enjoyed the pieces she combined pictures with drawings/the collages, they were made to look kind of abstract the way they were put together but could still see what the overall image was. My favorite pieces were the ones she was combining raw materials, or the different tools to finish creating the bodies of animals or creating her own creatures. The drawing of the swan with with the body being finished with metal sheets and it seemed like copper tubes was my favorite piece. The combination of something organic and robotic made it really unique and seem the animal had prosthetic, which is something that you normally dont think of, its normally humans with prosthetic.  With that being said, all her prosthetic pieces were my least favorite, she began to make some of her own which looked like sock/nylon material which were kind of interesting, but the ones that students or professors had made and she just took photos of, did not get my interest. It was good that she created the book with comments from patients because if it weren't for that, personally the photos alone seemed boring.
